Embers

I've not been well the past few days and thinking has been kind of like upending a bag of Scrabble tiles on the floor, so I've not exactly been productive with the words and the putting them into an impressive order. I did sit down Saturday evening, however, and hack up a very short world builder to add to the others that -- yes, mere weeks ago -- I said I was done with, but that has been knocking around my brain for a couple of weeks anyway. Almost spitefully. So have that. Someone did read it before posting, they said it wasn't awful...

Onslaught #009 – Alien Resurrection

I don’t think I’ve ever watched Alien Resurrection in quite such close proximity to Alien3 before. Despite all of these films telling a branched story, Alien is somehow a film series I’ve always managed to see as independent pieces that also happen to run in a sequence; perhaps because they’re all so different to one another and give me different mileage, I don’t know. But, having watched Alien Resurrection only a week after having seen both Alien3 and Aliens… …I can now kinda see how unnecessary a sequel it is.

The Big Questions

In which our hero decides to stop just referring to this thing people probably don't even think exists and finally shows part of it off instead. Meanwhile, the lengthy preamble to the point justifies why he even bothered starting this in the first place and why the Big Question at the heart of it lives on even though the project died.

Onslaught #008 – Alien 3

I often like to watch the movie for this project, then give it a while to sink in before I sit down to write my article about it. I suppose, having just watched the movie, I feel a bit like I’m running on adrenaline and I’m going to give a slingshot reaction dictated by how the ending made me feel. Normally, I like to avoid that. But actually, I want to capture exactly that when it comes to Alien3.

Onslaught #007 – Aliens

I don’t really like Aliens. This is what I meant in the previous Onslaught about The Alien Sequel That I Don’t Really Like That Might Not Be What You’re Thinking Of; when ranking the four, Aliens always comes fourth for me.

Sincerest Form of Flattery

In which a stubborn idea loosens up a little after some constant badgering with short stories. Meanwhile, fan fiction is approached and discussed relatively briefly, but its importance is thumbed down and the people who abuse it are dragged out onto the kerb and given a damn good thrashing.

Onslaught #006 – Alien

I can't tell you how many times I've seen Alien before, because I lost count years ago. I love this movie. I'm not going to go into my views on the sequels right here as, naturally, they're following in the next three Onslaughts, thanks to my Alien Quadrilogy box set. Safe to say, I enjoy them all, though my ownership of one of the sequels is simply for completist purposes...and, if you don't know me personally, it's probably not the one you think...

Socially Inept

In which questions are asked that make our hero think about social media and why he, in general, dislikes it completely, when what he's really meant to be thinking about is what the point of it all might be. Meanwhile, the social media thing he does like gets a fair bit of attention, the one he notoriously Really Does Not gets the rest of the column inches and a point is actually reached, against all odds.
